Ground Stations Monitoring and Control Software Engineer
Description

WGS Workgroup Solutions GmbH is looking for a Ground Stations M&C Software Engineer to join its Engineering Team.

Responsibilities

The tasks will include:

Monitoring and Control (M&C) System Management

  • Oversee the deployment, operation, and maintenance of M&C systems for multiple ground stations, including PMCS, TLMC, and GSTMC systems.
  • Ensure system reliability and seamless operation for both LEO and GEO ground stations, adapting to evolving program needs.

System Harmonization and Integration

  • Collaborate on the harmonization project aimed at standardizing M&C systems across multiple stations, including the transition to a single M&C product.
  • Facilitate the integration of high-level M&C frameworks into the existing ground station architecture, supporting a centralized and scalable infrastructure.

Technical Support and Issue Resolution

  • Provide technical support for the EPS and EPS-SG programs, resolving system constraints, managing obsolescence, and implementing updates for future mission requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and address operational challenges across different ground station networks, ensuring adherence to program timelines.

Documentation and Compliance

  • Prepare technical documentation, interface control documents, and system-level updates to maintain compliance with configuration and quality assurance standards.
  • Coordinate with security, configuration management, and quality assurance teams to align on cross-functional requirements and project goals.

Stakeholder Collaboration and Project Coordination

  • Act as a liaison with cross-functional teams, including TSS SGS, GSSE, MCAT, and other stakeholders, to streamline the implementation of M&C harmonization strategies.
  • Support procurement activities, assist in the preparation of project management plans, and contribute to system-level verification and validation.
Qualifications

The candidate shall have the following attributes and skills:

  • A university degree in a relevant technical discipline (i.e., computer science, telecommunications, electronics or equivalent) or the equivalent work experience.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in the ground stations software systems or monitoring and control systems.
  • C#, C++ and Java programming language experience in Linux and Windows based environment including profiling, debugging and troubleshooting with technical assessment of ground stations hardware and software failures
  • Knowledge of configuration and testing of all TT&C and Payload data reception Ground Stations related systems.
  • Experience of Ground Stations M&C systems (preferably based on Dataminer); drivers development, interfaces,...
  • Experience in Casandra and Elasticsearch in Linux systems.
  • Knowledge of CCSDS Space Link Extension (SLE) configuration and debugging.
  • Conversant with CCSDS and/or ECSS standards.
  • Experience with TCP/IP, SNMP, network communications protocols
  • Knowledge of virtualisation.
  • Excellent analytical, synthesis, and presentation skills.
  • Very good interpersonal, communication and reporting skills and an ability to apply these to the interactions within a team and between teams in a multi-disciplinary context.
  • A systematic approach to work with the ability to plan their work and to cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks.
  • Fluent in English
