Satellite Data Processing Expert
Description

WGS Workgroup Solutions GmbH is seeking for Satellite Data Processing Experts to join our Expert Service Team for our client, EUMETSAT. The service will primarily be provided on-site in Darmstadt, Germany, with some flexibility for weekly remote working.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring the development, testing, and lifecycle of EPS-SG Operational Processors, providing support to the EUMETSAT Technical Officer and contributing to design reviews, interface definitions, and on-site acceptance testing.
  • Reviewing EPS-SG Processing Specifications (algorithms, product format, auxiliary data) and test data, and supporting integration into the PDAP system.
  • Participating in anomaly investigations and risk management activities, including Anomaly Review Boards (ARB) and mitigation actions.
  • Transferring knowledge of EPS-SG Operational Processors to other teams, supporting maintenance, warranty phases, and patch testing.
  • Participating in progress meetings, configuration management, and reviews related to DPI and test data.
Qualifications
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written) with good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • University degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Software Engineering, Atmospheric Physics, Remote Sensing) or comparable qualifications with over 3 years’ experience in related domains.
  • Strong knowledge of ECSS Standards and Processes, satellite data processing, and hands-on experience in procurement activities, particularly with external providers.
  • Experience in Design, Verification, and Validation of Operational Software, including review processes such as RID generation, Review Board Reports, Test Specifications and Procedures, and Test Readiness Reviews.
  • Involvement in formal system testing, test witnessing, anomaly management (ARB), lifecycle management, patches, and new release testing.
  • Experience in Verification Control Board Process, risk management, and managing Requests for Deviation (RfD) and Request for Waiver (RfW).
  • Software development skills, particularly in Java, Python, and bash scripting, with knowledge of CI/CD processes and Big Data technologies (Apache Storm, Kafka, RabbitMQ).
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks under tight schedules, independently fulfilling assigned tasks without supervision.
