Copernicus Development and System Engineer
Description

WGS is looking for an experienced  Development & System Engineer to support EUMETSAT's Copernicus Mission Development (CMD) programme.

The service is performed primarily on-site at EUMETSAT headquarters in Darmstadt, with a minimum on-site presence of 50% of working time.

Responsibilities

The Candidate will support the engineering, integration, verification and validation activities for the next generation of Copernicus Earth Observation missions (CO2M, CRISTAL/CIMR and Sentinel-3 Next Generation Optical) throughout the complete Ground Segment lifecycle. Responsibilities include supporting requirements engineering, traceability and management, contributing to Ground Segment architecture and interface design, preparing technical documentation and engineering models, defining and executing IV&V activities, preparing test specifications and verification reports, supporting integration and validation campaigns, configuration management, anomaly investigation and technical reviews. The Candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and industrial partners and contribute to MBSE activities where applicable.

Qualifications

The candidate shall have the following attributes and skills:

Mandatory Requirements

  • Excellent spoken and written English.
  • Ability to prepare clear, accurate and consistent technical documentation.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in Systems Engineering and Integration, Verification & Validation (IV&V) at System and Ground Segment level and Satellite Mission Control System
  • Experience preparing:
    • Test Specifications
    • Test Procedures
    • Test Reports
  • Minimum 3 years of experience supporting at least one major Ground Segment element for an Earth Observation mission.
  • Experience with Ground Segment development lifecycle.
  • Experience in requirements engineering and requirements traceability.
  • Experience supporting engineering reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR or equivalent).
  • Experience with integration, verification and validation campaigns.
  • Knowledge of requirements management tools (e.g. IBM DOORS or equivalent).
  • Experience of preparing and managing test data sets (particularly in CCSDS and NetCDF formats), including reconditioning, Change control, and related test tools
  • Hands-on experience in setting up, maintaining, and integrating CI/CD Pipelines and automated tools (GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins,Docker)
  • Experience with test management tools such as Jira Xray, including test planning, execution and reporting.
  • Experience in preparation and maintenance of Verification Control Documents (VCDs) and formal verification Control processes including Verification Control Boards (VCBs)
  • Experience of GS-Level integration, verification and validation with Ground Stations for TT&C and Mission Data Acquisition
  • Use of modelling and design languages for System Engineering (e.g. SysML) and tools in support of architectural design activities (e.g. Enterprise Architect)
  • Knowledge of ECSS standards.
  • Ability to work within international multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
  • Knowledge of CCSDS File Delivery Protocol (CFDP) standard and experience of using the full stack of CCSDS standards.
  • Experience with automated testing (e.g. Jenkins, Selenium, Robot Framework)
  • Knowledge of Spacecraft and/or ground Segment operations
  • Knowledge of and/or experience of Mission product’s Quality Control, Calibration and Validation.
  • Experience supporting Copernicus, Sentinel or EUMETSAT programmes.
  • Knowledge of IT/Ground segment technologies: relational databases, virtualisation, containerization, networking, SW deployment tools, etc.
